Definition
The EU Artificial Intelligence Act (Regulation (EU) 2024/1689) is a risk-based framework for AI systems placed on the EU market. It distinguishes AI practices that are prohibited, AI systems classified as high-risk (subject to requirements such as risk management, technical documentation, human oversight and logging), certain systems with specific transparency obligations, and systems considered minimal risk. Its provisions apply in phases over several years from the regulation's entry into force in 2024.
